I enjoy listening to every style of music. However, this may not be true for most people. Certainly, I have my favourite genres – alternative rock and grunge as well as classic rock and disco.
There are distinct similarities and differences between the music of my parent’s generation and of my generation. One similarity is that the 60′s brought us the Beatles as well as the Rolling Stones, and later the 90′s brought us Nirvana as well as Pearl Jam. Both sets of bands were considered rivals in a way, in both decades.
A profound difference between the music of both generations is that most of the music from my parent’s generation had never been attempted before. The music of my generation drew upon the influence of that earlier music to some extent and also contributed many original ideas.
One genre of music of which I am also a big fan is punk rock. Punk rock started in the 70′s. In the 90′s, there was also a punk rock revival. In some ways it seems that punk never really went away because in the 80′s there were bands such as the Clash and artists such as Billy Idol – they kept punk rock going.
Be it reggae, calypso, jazz, dance music, or whatever else may come my way – I feel fortunate to be able to enjoy them all. A variety of styles of music contributes to the pleasure and enjoyment of the listener.
